Some people completely disregard the value of what a bass guitar adds to a song. In fact, most people completely overlook what a bass actually does. The fact is that the bass guitar is one of the most important instruments to help keep the steady foundation and beat of a song or musical piece.

Along with a drummer, the bass player can really define and shape how a song sounds. A lot of people just assume that the bass is just a rhythm instrument and really does not do much, but this couldn't be further from the truth. Just listen to any Rush song or Grateful Dead song.
